Hossegor and its marine lake

Hossegor, Europe’s surf capital, is also an elegant seaside resort. The marine lake, breathing to the rhythm of the tides, is lined with Basque villas and pines. A bike date around the lake, then a terrace pause in Soorts, is enough for a fine afternoon. On the ocean side, the central beach and its impressive rollers draw the curious and the seasoned surfers alike.

Capbreton, the Landes harbour

Just to the south, Capbreton keeps the soul of a fishing port. You wander around the fish auction, walk out along the wooden pier into the ocean, enjoy a drink facing the boats. The Capbreton gouf, a submarine canyon unusual in France, lies offshore. A very simple and sincere setting for a first date, followed by a dinner of truly fresh fish.

Mimizan and the Silver Coast

Further north, Mimizan and Vieux-Boucau line up long beaches beaten by the waves and backed by the Landes forest. Cycle paths wind among the pines to quiet lakes, ideal for a picnic for two. On Lyad, local singles share their favourite spots; it is up to you to find someone to lay down a towel facing the Atlantic with.
